Strong partners, strong cooperation

Special-purpose associations can be responsible for waste disposal goods of all kinds in consultation with the municipality. In this case, the special-purpose association can grant private companies permission to set up a separate plastics collection service in their region. For a long time, it was difficult to assess whether household plastics were actually being recycled in an ecologically sound manner and whether the plastics cycle was being closed in this way.

The Swiss Plastic Recyclers Association (VSPR) is now helping to remedy this situation with mandatory certification and precise monitoring. Disposal companies that are certified by the VSPR undertake to comply with high environmental standards. This means that special-purpose associations, cities and municipalities can recommend the collection of household plastics to their residents with conviction.

When the AWEL ZH issued an official recommendation to collect plastic with a licensed collection system, we took a closer look at separate plastic collection and decided that it would make sense to develop a solution for the entire KEWY area. In our view, it did not make sense for each municipality to develop its own concept, not least because of the journeys involved in collecting the bags. A regional solution can combine and thus reduce this.
